The Mercedes-Benz Group (formerly Daimler AG) company standard DBL 1000 encompasses requirements for emissions and odors related to materials and components used in vehicle interiors. It replaces the DBL 5430 as of July 2019 and has been adjusted to the new numbering system.
Components, individual parts, and materials that can come into direct or indirect contact with the interior cabin air of the vehicle fall within the scope of the specification. Direct contact applies to all parts located directly within the vehicle interior. Indirect contact applies to parts that can emit emissions into the passenger compartment through cavities such as ventilation channels or body openings, including trunk compartments, seals, air conditioning and heating systems, as well as spaces behind paneling.
All components, individual parts, and materials relevant to the interior cabin must comply with the requirements of this directive.
We are fully accredited to perform all the test methods required in DBL 1000:
- VDA 278 (Thermal desorption analysis of organic emissions for characterization of non-metallic automotive materials)
- VDA 270 (Determination of odor behavior of automotive interior materials)
- VDA 275 (Determination of formaldehyde)
- DIN EN ISO 17226-1 (Leather - Chemical determination of formaldehyde content)
- DIN 75201 (Determination of fogging behavior/fogging condensate)
- DIN ISO 12219-4 (Component chamber measurement: Method for the determination of volatile organic compounds from vehicle interior components)
- DIN ISO 12219-6 (Method for the determination of semi-volatile organic compounds from vehicle interior components at elevated temperatures - Small chamber method)
- DIN ISO 12219-7 (Determination of odor in the cabin air of road vehicles and emission test chamber air of interior components through olfactory measurements)
- VDA 276-3 (Determination of total concentration of hydrocarbon compounds in test chambers and vehicle interiors using a flame ionization detector (FID))
- DIN EN 13130-4 (Determination of 1,3-butadiene in plastics)
